SCOTLAND’S SPECIALITY FOOD SHOW BUZZING WITH INTEREST AND ORDERS

Thu, 01/25/2018 - 13:21

The warmth of the Scottish food and drink industry drove away the bad weather this week as orders flowed and confidence abounded at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show. Retailers were keen to taste and see the delicious food and drink from Scotland and beyond that was on display. Praise was given to the high quality of products and exhibitors that make up Scotland’s Speciality Food Show, which was held in Glasgow from 21-23 Jan, and which has improved dramatically over the last decade. The sheer breadth of products and the high quality of the ingredients, packaging and presentation was very welcoming and attracted farm shops, delis, restaurants, supermarkets, tourist shops and hotels from all over the UK. From products inspired from foreign tastes, and even produced all over the globe, to the rise of Scottish craft gins, from the delicious array of ice cream producers to the mouthwatering chocolate bars, there was something for everyone in both retail and catering. The Show highlights were particularly well received. Best Product Awards (see list of winners at end) were judged at the opening of the Show with the judges praising the innovation and strength of the entries. Jamie Landale, owner of The Crieff Food Company and one of the judges said :”We were really impressed with the quality and variety of food and drink products on offer at the Show. Five or ten years ago the principal products on offer would have been traditional Scottish ones such as oatcakes, shortbread and whisky. Today the choice is vast from Scottish biltong to raw vegan desserts and so much is well produced, well presented and tastes delicious. Well done to all those who go that extra mile to produce high quality food that consumers now expect.” Mark Saunders, Show Director said: “There is an air of optimism in the independent retail market in Scotland which was plain to see at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show. Despite a slightly lower footfall caused by the bad weather, this hasn’t stopped the orders and leads flowing and most exhibitors and visitors left the Show feeling buoyant about the year ahead. Indications show that outlets catering for tourists should continue to flourish as Scotland remains a very popular place to visit.” - Ends - Note to Editors: Best Product Award winners: Chilled & Frozen Gold- Clarks Speciality Foods – Nanny McBrie cheese Silver- Rora Dairy – yoghurt Bronze- Great Glen Charcuterie – Venison salami Confectionery, Biscuits & Snacks Gold- Braw Biltong - Scottish biltong Silver- Cocoa Ooze - chocolate Bronze- Your Piece Baking Company – oatcakes Drinks Gold- Lussa Gin – gin from Jura Silver- Summerhouse Drinks – St Clements juice Bronze- Pickled in Scotland/The Original Fruit Company – Raspberry Cordial Condiments & Preserves Gold- Isle of Skye Sea Salt - salt Silver- the Very Lovely Sauce Company – Lemongrass sauce Bronze- Boom Kitchen - curry sauce kit Scotland’s Speciality Food Show– 21-23 January 2018, SECC, Glasgow Scotland’s Trade Fairs Organised by Springboard Events - Tel: 01877 385772 www.scotlandsspecialityfoodshow.com For further press information, please contact: Fenella Taylor at Fenella Taylor PR Tel: 01389 830390/ 07721 324696 Email: fenella@fenellataylorpr.co.uk
