Dekassa won the Home and Giftware section for their wonderfully perfumed Midgie Candle, while Tartan Spirit took the Clothing and Textiles section with a contemporary tartan bag and corsage set. The Jewellery and Fashion Accessories was won by gracie j’s dramatic silver pendant/belt and the Launch Gallery for companies under two years old was won by Scott Inness’s thistle cushion.
The awards were judged by leading interiors journalist Heather Macleod and Wendy Ross Owner of The Old Mill Gift Shop and Ruby Red in Glasgow who were impressed by the high standard of products. Wendy said: “There was a superb range of items from small and large producers. We were particularly impressed with the originality of many of products which is encouraging to see so many stylish and eminently saleable items.”
As well as the four winners there were runners up in each section and highly commended. The Articulate Gallery also won a Special Award for Innovation for their ingenious frames to hold children’s paintings.
The winning products were all displayed in large cabinets which has attracted many buyers to their stands. Each winner received two metres of free stand space for the 2010 Show, plus a certificate and logo that they can use on marketing material. The awards are to be officially presented by the Rt Hon Lord Provost of Glasgow Councillor Bob Winter at a drinks reception at Glasgow’s City Chambers on 25 Jan.
Heather Macleod added: “It is so encouraging to see so many exciting new products and companies, many of whom are from Scotland, who have taken the economic downturn as an opportunity to create new goods. It was a difficult decision to choose the best products from such an array of items and I hope we will see many of these in gift shops, department stores, tourist shops etc all over the UK.”
